Conduct on School Property
The Thomaston Board of Education requires all staff members to maintain a high standard of
respect, civility, and professionalism on school property and at school-related events. Disruptive,
hostile, or unprofessional behavior will not be tolerated. Staff are expected to serve as role
models for students and the community, ensuring a positive and orderly educational
environment.
To uphold a safe, respectful workspace and learning environment, no staff member on school
property or at school events shall:
- Engage in physical harm, threats, harassment, or intimidation of any student, colleague, parent, or community member.
- Use offensive, obscene, or unprofessional language.
- Act in a manner that disrupts or attempts to disrupt school operations or classroom activities.
- Damage or threaten to damage school property or the property of others.
- Deface or disrespect school facilities, materials, or resources.
- Engage in illegal activities, including the use of alcohol, drugs, or possession of weapons on school property.
- Impede or interfere with the orderly conduct of educational programs, school activities, or administrative procedures.
- Ignore district policies, safety protocols, or directives from supervisors.
Consequences for Violations:
- Any staff member engaging in disruptive or harmful behavior will be directed to stop immediately and may be subject to disciplinary action as outlined in Board policies and collective bargaining agreements.
- Staff members using offensive or unprofessional language will be reminded to communicate respectfully. Repeated offenses may lead to discipline.
- Violations of conduct expectations will be addressed through corrective measures, which may include formal warnings, suspensions, or additional disciplinary actions as per district policy.
- For severe or repeated violations, staff may face further consequences, including termination and referral to local authorities if necessary.
Reporting and Investigation
All incidents involving violence, harassment, or property damage must be reported to the employee’s supervisor and documented promptly. Upon receiving a report, the Superintendent or designee will conduct an investigation. If a violation of Policy 4316 is confirmed, the
Superintendent will issue a formal warning and initiate corrective actions, which may include:

- Temporary suspension.
- Involvement of law enforcement where applicable.
- Termination of employment for severe or repeated violations.
