The Board, as required by statute, will inform, at the middle and high school level, students and their parents/guardians of the availability of (1) vocational, technical and technological education and training at technical high schools, and (2) agricultural science and technology education at regional agricultural science and technology centers.
Parents and/or students who desire to attend one of the (1) vocational, technical and technological education and training at technical high schools or (2) agricultural science and technology education at regional agricultural science and technology centers available to them as a Thomaston resident must submit the required applications to said school(s) along with the required form requesting a transfer from Thomaston Public Schools.
Transportation
Transportation for students who are enrolled in and attend an agricultural science and technology education center must be furnished by their parents or guardians. To the extent required by state law, the board of education shall pay the reasonable and necessary cost of transportation to such a center of students who have completed the eighth grade, are under twenty-one years of age, are not graduates of a high school or technical education and career school, and are granted permission by the Board to enroll in and attend the Thomaston-designated agricultural science and technology education center. The reasonable and necessary cost of transportation shall mean reimbursement at the IRS standard mileage rate for 10.4 miles for transportation to the Thomaston-designated agricultural science and technology education center and 10.3 miles at the IRS mileage reimbursement rate for transportation from the Thomaston-designated agricultural science and technology education center.
Nondiscrimination
The Board, the Superintendent, other administrators and teachers shall not make any distinction on account of race, color, ethnic group, gender, sexual orientation, sexual identity or expression, or religion of any student who may be in attendance or who seeks admission to any school maintained by the District in the determination or recommendation of action under this policy.
However, the Board reserves the right to limit the total number of Board-sponsored opportunities for students to enroll in and attend agricultural science and technology education centers due to budget constraints.
